The "Pro" in Proactive means "Before"

Often supervisors feel they do not have time to do much more than handle health and safety problems as they arise. Simply reacting to accidents and near-misses is not going to have much of an effect on the health and safety of employees.

As a supervisor you must take a "proactive" approach to health and safety issues. This means anticipating how or why an accident or illness might occur, and eliminating the causes before they lead to an injury or illness or even a near-miss.
